[Personal Connection] Dayton, this city represents the heart and soul of Ohio. From its rich history in innovation and aviation to its vibrant, hardworking communities, Dayton embodies the spirit of resilience and determination that defines our state. It’s an honor to stand before you today as we work together to build a brighter future for all Ohioans. [Personal Background and Motivation] My name is DeShawn Jackson, and I’m running for Governor because I believe in the power of community and the strength of unity. Growing up in Cleveland, in a working-class family, I learned the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of standing up for what’s right. Those values have guided me throughout my career in public service and continue to drive me as I seek to lead our state. [Key Issues and Vision] Ohio faces many challenges, but together, we can overcome them. Here’s our vision for a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous Ohio: Economic Prosperity We need to revitalize our economy to ensure that every Ohioan has access to good-paying jobs. We will invest in local businesses, support innovation, and create opportunities for all. Dayton, with its legacy of innovation, will be at the forefront of this economic renewal. Quality Education Education is the key to a better future. We will fight for better funding for our schools, support our teachers, and ensure that every child, no matter their zip code, has access to a high-quality education. Our children deserve the best, and we will make sure they get it. Accessible Healthcare Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. We will expand healthcare coverage, lower costs, and make sure that no one has to choose between paying their bills and seeing a doctor. Every Ohioan deserves access to affordable, high-quality healthcare. Social Justice and Equality We must address systemic inequalities and fight for justice for all communities. This means reforming our criminal justice system, protecting voting rights, and standing up against discrimination. Ohio must be a place where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. Environmental Sustainability We will advocate for sustainable practices to protect our environment for future generations. Clean air, water, and green spaces are essential for our health and well-being. Dayton, known for its beautiful parks and rivers, will play a crucial role in our environmental stewardship.
